At the request of Fr. Malcolm Reid, the outreach task force formed a group of volunteers from CTR to prepare and serve dinners to the homeless at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 4 Ocean St., Beverly MA. The program at St. Peter's serves dinners every Friday and Sunday evening throughout the year with a group of participants from area churches scheduled on a rotating basis by Marsha Collins, the program administrator.
The CTR group serves on the second Sunday of each even numbered month for a total of six times over a twelve month period. Duties include meal preparation, setting up the serving area in St. Peter's gymnasium, serving the meals to our guests, and breaking down and cleaning up the hall and kitchen facilities. Food and supplies are stocked at St. Peter's in advance of each meal, but CTR's group often donates additional special menu items for special holidays such as the Easter dinner and St. Valentine's Day. The group prepares to serve a maximum of fifty people for each meal with the usual turnout averaging about thirty five guests. Leftover food is packaged and delivered to the River St. halfway house for men in Beverly after each Sunday's dinner where it is eagerly accepted.
If you would like to join the CTR group as a regular crew member or as an alternate when needed, please email Paul and Linda Dube.
